CNC TURNING

What Is CNC Turning?

Turning is a common manufacturing process in which machine shops use high-speed lathes equipped with a cutting tool to shape raw materials into precision components. Computer Numerical Control (CNC) turning is a sub-type of the process that uses a computer interface to automate the cutting process, reducing the risk of human error and ensuring components meet rigorous quality standards and tolerance constraints.

HOW CNC TURNING WORKS

During production, raw materials are held in place on a central axis and rotated. An external cutting tool is lowered into the raw stock to cut away excess material, forming the stock material into a custom CNC turned component. Because the CNC turning process creates small components from a larger piece of stock material, the process can produce components with extremely tight tolerances, which are necessary for the critical industries that our customers support.

Custom CNC Turning Services from Micro-Matics

As one of the top CNC machine shops in the Midwest, Micro-Matics uses state-of-the-art CNC turning centers that allow us to process parts efficiently. This matters when it comes to producing quality components with aggressive lead times. We have the solution for nearly all applications – from medical-grade respirator components to tight-tolerance fasteners for the aerospace industry. Our team can produce precision CNC-turned components using CAD models, design drawings, and other documents.

In addition to our machining capabilities, our CNC turning services draw upon the expertise of our team to boost component quality and make the manufacturing process more efficient. When clients partner with us, our in-house engineers suggest targeted enhancements to improve machineability and repeatability of CNC-turned components.
